Ambrosia salad is an American fruit salad that combines pineapple, orange slices, miniature marshmallows, and coconut, and a mayonaisse or dairy liquid component, such as whipped cream, non-dairy whipped topping, sour cream, cream cheese, pudding, yogurt, or cottage cheese. Common additions include maraschino cherries, bananas, strawberries, grapes, or pecans. The salad is typically layered and refrigerated before service.
In New Zealand, ambrosia refers to a different dish, combining whipped cream, yogurt, berries, and chocolate chips, combined into a pudding.
