Brussels Pain à la Grècque is a crispy butter cookie from the Flanders region of Belgium.
Word origins
Despite their name, Brussels Pain à la Grèque have nothing to do with Greece. The cookie derives from a bread that was distributed by Augustinian monks in the Wolvengracht, a street in the center of Brussels. The bread was called "bread from the gracht" or grecht in the local dialect, which gave rise to the current name.
