Chickweed (Stellaria media) is flowering plant that is naturalized all over the world and grows in many climates as a weed. It is highly attractive to chickens, and is a nutritious food source for them. The stems, leaves, and flowers of chickweed are edible, and can be used raw or cooked in soups, salads, and porridges.
In Japan, where it is called kohakobe, chickwort is one of the seven spring herbs celebrated in haru no nanakusa, the Spring herb festival.
