Galliano is a sweet, herbal liqueur created in 1896 by Italian distiller Arturo Vaccari in Livorno, Tuscany. The original recipe was formulated as a tribute to Giuseppe Galliano, an Italian war hero, and is notable for its distinctive golden color and tall, slender bottle.
Galliano’s complex flavor profile is derived from an infusion of over 30 herbs, spices, and plant extracts, including star anise, juniper, vanilla, cinnamon, and Mediterranean herbs, resulting in predominant notes of vanilla and anise balanced by subtle citrus and woodsy undertones.
Used extensively in cocktail history, Galliano is a key ingredient in drinks such as the Harvey Wallbanger, the Golden Cadillac, and the Yellow Bird, prized for both its unique flavor and its vibrant color.
