Herring is a family of fish (Clupeidae), found mostly in the North Pacific and North Atlantic oceans, the Baltic Sea, and the west coast of South America. The most commercially relevant species are the Atlantic herring (Clupea harengus) and the Pacific herring (Clupea pallasii). A number of other species are referred to herrings, including several outside genus Clupeidae.
