Holy Basil (Ocimum tenuiflorum, also called Ocimum sanctum Linn), known as tulsi in Hindi, is an aromatic herb cultivated in India and Southeast Asia. It is especially prized in Thai cooking, where is sometimes called Thai holy basil (Thai: kaphrao), and is the essential ingredient in phat kaphrao.
Based on the author's research, it appears that that Ethiopian herb basobila, also called sacred basil, is also Ocimum sanctum (see Zuberi, Kebede, Gosaye, Belachew 2014, below).
