The Satsuma plum (Prunus salicina 'Satsuma'), also called the blood plum, is a Japanese plum with deep red flesh and mottled maroon skins. The Satsuma plum is the parent to several popular culivars, including the Santa Rosa and the Mariposa. They are semi-clingstone, and have sweet flesh with mild acidity.
Satsuma plums were introduced to the United States market by Luther Burbank in the mid-1880s.
