Cupedia, or cupeto, is claimed by some sources to be an ancient Roman confection, based on an etymology of "delicacies". It is claimed by those sources to be related to modern nougat, or torrone.
Other sources (Amari, quoted in Rizza) trace this term to Arabic kobbeit, kubbât, or kubbeit, which was apparently also a confection made with almonds and grape must, which was replaced with honey when it was imported to Sicily.
Compare nucatum, a Roman confection for which we have the recipe from Apicius.
