Fritto misto is an Italian dish of numerous small meat, seafood, and vegetable items, lightly battered and deep fried.
The dish has been prepared in Italy since, at least, the 18th century. Dubois (1870) writes: "The 'frito misto' especially, occupies an important place in Italian gastronomy. Moreover the cooks of this country prepare it with so much care and taste, that they have succeeded in attracting the notice of gourmets. Few people, who have spent some time in Italy, will fail to relish this national dish."
