A Navajo taco (also sometimes called "Indian taco") is a dish made by topping a round of frybread with seasoned ground beef or beans, shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, grated cheese, and other common taco garnishes.
It originated in Native American communities as a way to adapt government-issued rations — especially frybread — into a familiar and satisfying meal.
Though most strongly associated with the Navajo people, Indian tacos are now served at powwows, fairs, and community events across many tribes in the United States.
